My earliest memory of Grandpa was his many trips to visit our family. It started in San Jose, he and Grandma would come to visit us and they would bring boxes and ice chests full of food. Homemade sweetbread, malasadas, portuguese and blood sausage, opihi and laulau, macadamia nuts, and the famous red ball coconut candy. Grandma would cook and clean daily, it was like having a personal maid. Grandpa would love to go shopping, buying many things and making comments about how the prices were much more affordable compared to Hawai'i. He would usually bring home a big gallon of chocolate milk, which was a treat for us.
When they attended church with us, Grandpa would love to share his testimony and Grandma would wear one of her favorite mu'umu'u. The haole members would love to hear Grandpa's stories and his pidgin english accent. Grandpa had a positive affect on those around him and was full of so much energy, advice , and aloha.
